This page describes creating a milestone in Clarizen and includes the following sections :

For the following example, a new milestone is created from the Navigation Panel.
Creating a Milestone via the Navigation Panel
- Click
The Navigation Panel opens. - Click New and select Milestone .
The Add New Milestone pop-up window or in-line editor opens.


Layouts for defining new items can be configured to display information and/or fields as pop-up windows or as inline editors
by your organization's Admin user, via Layout Settings .

- Enter the milestone name.
To upload a custom icon , click the milestone icon on the left.
- Click the link below the Name field to change the parent .
- In the Template field, click
to select a template. (Optional.)

- In the Manager field, click
to select a manager (other than the default manager).
- Click the Start Date field to define the milestone's start date .
- Click the Committed Date field to define the committed date.

- Navigate to the project Item Detail view's Roadmap .
- Click
located on the ribbon .
The Add Milestone dialog opens.

- Click and hold to choose the required milestone and 'drag and drop' it to the desired location on the Roadmap.
The New Milestone properties dialog opens.

- Enter a milestone name and define the Due Date .
- Click
The new milestone is created and appears on the roadmap in the selected location.

Using Templates
Using Templates
This page describes creating new milestones using templates and includes the following sections :
Using templates to provide the basic framework for creating new milestones from a previously used milestone saved in the
system saves you time. All fields and data are maintained when a milestone is saved as a template.
When creating the new milestone, the template properties define the configuration of the milestone's overall architecture
and strategy for achieving the milestone's deliverables. The template may include user assignment.
Creating a New Milestone Using a Template
- Follow Steps 1 through 4 of 'Creating a Milestone via the Navigation Panel'.

The Select Template find window opens listing the milestone templates.
- Sort columns , define column sets and/or define search filters .

- Uncheck the item type properties not to be included in the new milestone.

The Add New Milestone pop-up window or in-line editor loads with the selected template properties .

The Milestones module supports including Clarizen's Team Panel to the view. The addition of the Team Panel creates a
team-centric view to better assist with team collaboration on all deliverables.

Grid
Grid
The grid is Clarizen's standard data table display for viewing, managing and editing data and items in most modules .
A grid display is one of three display type options used to configure several of the out-of-the-box view options available in
the View Navigator for most modules.
Using the Time Range Filter enables filtering the grid to show items and events occurring during the actual period/date(s)
defined.
C licking the icon, located above the ribbon enables managing grid column sets which can then be further filtered
and sorted .

The Milestones module can be searched and filtered for items and data using the Contextual Search and the Time Range Filter .

The Milestones module ribbon , located under the masthead (at the top-left) provides controls for performing actions on
selected items .

Relations Panel
Relations Panel
The Milestones module grid displays include t he Relations Panel , located on the right-hand side of the screen.
The Relations Panel displays any related items, such as assigned resources , files , and discussions , etc.) of a selected item type in the grid, , as well as cases including bugs, issues and requests, and enables working with the related items while staying in context of your original view.
The panel is blank when multiple items are selected.

A Milestone's properties card can be accessed from the Milestones module by selecting the item in the grid , and
clicking located in the Relations Panel .

A milestone Item Detail view layout is comprised of the milestone's Properties Card located at the top of the page and
panels containing any related items, such as resources , followers , discussions , emails and more. S pecific information is
d isplayed in the customizable panels that can be arranged in the view to suit your needs. Some items use special panels .
You can work with items in each panel directly without losing context. Milestone Detail view p anels within the view can be
laid out in one or two columns on the screen, and are fully customizable by your organization's Clarizen Admin user.
You can further customize the view for private use at the user level .

Work Plan (WBS)
Work Plan (WBS)
Work Plan panels provide a clear, easy to follow view of work items broken down into sub-items in a tree format.
In project management terminology, this is a WBS, a work breakdown structure.
Discussions
Discussions
Discussions on a specific milestone in Clarizen can be initiated, shared and replied to in order to facilitate work item team or
group collaboration.
Discussions centered on a specific milestone appear in the Milestone module Relations Panel and dedicated panels in
milestone Item Detail views .

How can we create Milestones within Programs?
Is there a reason why I cannot create milestone within the structure of my WBS? Seems like milestones can only be at the project level and not indented within the structure of the WBS. Is this an implementation issue i.e. each company decide the level where milestones can be created?
