Project resource planning

To facilitate the resource planning process and ensure that you have resources optimally deployed across projects as well as within a project, Clarizen introduces project resource planning functionality for Portfolio/Program Managers, Resource Managers and Project Managers.

In the new Resource Planning view for a project, Project Managers can define the project level resource assignments over the duration of the project, with the ability to adjust the assignment load by period (i.e. day, week or month).

For projects that are in the planning stage or less fully defined, you may want to only plan resources at the project level, compared to projects that are more detailed in nature, and you are planning resources on tasks. Project Managers can see the roll-up of all assigned tasks against the project assignment, to better manage how they are utilizing resources on the project.

In the Resource Load view, Resource Managers now have the option to review capacity of a resource against their project or task-level assignments. Resource Managers can directly update the project assignments by period, to better level resource load across projects. This will help both Resource Managers to identify where they may need to hire or retrain resources, as well as helps Portfolio/Program Managers in the project approval decision process.

At this time, time-phased resource planning is only supported at the project level. Task-level assignment work is evenly spread over the duration of that task. Stay tuned for the enhanced functionality to support time-phase planning at the task level.

    Hi,
Does this mean that the 'work-by-day' functionality isn't part of this release?

    1) How does it compare what we have currently? Where can I find the "Resource Planning View" and the "Resource Load View". All I can see is the "Work Plan" with the resource assignment plan. Or are you refering to the Utilities > Resource Load button?
    2) What does "time-phased" resource planning mean?

Yes, I too am struggling to get to these new views.

A bit more documentation, screenshots would be helpful.

Hi All - the views can be accessed by first entering the System Settings and enabling setting 7.11 (under the "Work Management" section). Documentation should be updated in accordance shortly.

When I'm the Resource Load view, I can't edit any of the cells. They all have the lock on them. I can go to the task and edit the details. Why are they locked?

    Hi there,

Is there any information about configuration of this tool. I would like to create a workflow throwing a error or warning when users try to over allocate work to a resource using the Project Resource Planning tool.

    Cheers

I have the same question as Andrew, How are we supposed to edit the "Resource load"? Or is it there only to view the resource load?

We have resource planning, however its only with respect to a single task only. So there is a limitation.

If resource load is editable, it would be great!
