How to suppress mailouts generated by workflow rule?

I wrote a workflow rule to "unapprove" timesheet approvals inappropriately performed by direct managers (we enable timesheet approvals by direct manager in System Settings, but use rules to auto-revert them if they are for certain disallowed tasks).

However the upapproval / auto-reversion causes an email to be sent to the Resource that logged the hours.  It looks like this:

> Dear {Resource},
> Your timesheet for {date range} has been reopened.
> {Direct Manager}

How can I avoid this mailout when triggered by my workflow rule, but continue to allow it in the normal case (when a project manager or direct manager opens, via the web UI, a resource's timesheets for corrections)?

This might be a system setting that cannot be controlled (unless you stop these emails altogether). I'd wait for Clarizen to comment on this as well.

Hmm, ok.  Well, is it at least possible to combine the mailouts into a single email?  Or failing that, send one for each week involved?  As it is, the resource gets an email for each and every timesheet cell that gets reverted.  He got 50 emails this morning, for timesheet cells spread over 5 weeks.

Typically there would be one email per timesheet submission, not per cell. However, since you are using a configuration if may be treating each cell as a timesheet submission. I would discuss with PS to see if there is a solution for this, might be a feature request.
