How do I make a work item a deliverable?

I'm creating work items which are documents, not tasks.  How do I flag them as project deliverables?

I would create a task for the deliverable and then attach the document to the task and complete the task.  Creating the doc is an actionable item in and of itself, so it makes sense to have a task here.
