Currently you can drag & drop tasks from team views. You can either drag a resource to a task to add them to that task or drag a task to a resource to reassign the task. You can also do this with multiple tasks. In an upcoming release you will also be able to drag & drop to reorder tasks and work items in the work plan, but that again is an upcoming feature.
Drag and drop
I keep reading wonderful things about dragging and dropping tasks rather than the ridiculously cumbersome cut and paste palaver, yet I cannot find ANY reference in the user guide and certainly have been unable to utilise this option. PS that is now my 23rd interrogation of the V6 user guide and the 23rd time it has failed to give me any useful information whatsoever.

OK. Thank you. So I went to the user manual to find out about Team Views - because I can;t see anything about that in my V6 - and, you know what I'm going to say, there was nothing in there at all that tells me how to set it up. Can you help? (Wouldn't you save a lot of time if you guys wrote a user manual that was, well, a user manual?).
Go to the Tasks module, and select the Team View in the upper left. In Team Views your team (direct reports) appears on the left. You can also set the team to be a particular user group or project team. Like any other view in the system, it is customizable (watch this short video for more details: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MGEw7kKbKSA). Also, if you hop on our V6 webinars you can learn more about this in depth.
Thank you. One more question would be very helpful: I want to see my Gant so that the actions and tasks visually flow downwards according to their sequence, but no matter how many times I arrange it this way in my workplan, the Gant mode ignores my sequence and appears to radomize their order in the chart. What am I doing wrong?
I really shouldn't have to hop on a webinar every time I would otherwise expect to be able to look an issue up immediately in a user manual. its an incredibly slow way of getting up the learning curve.
If your view filtered? The Gantt is based on the project structure, but filters and sorts do not apply to the Gantt chart. That will likely change in the future with our next generation charts and reports.
My view of what? Where would I filter my view?
I don't know what to make of your answer. My question seemed very straightforward. I have set up the workplan for a project in the sequence down the page in which they occur, but the Gant chart is ignoring that sequence. So visually, the Gant chart is a mess and NOT the visual aid a Gant chart is supposed to be. Can you assist (without telling me to attend a webinar - which will be too late for me) please?
What I am hearing is that the Gantt View is not matching the order in your Workplan. My preview question was related to the Work Plan. Is your Work Plan filtered or sorted in any way? If it is not, then this would be a bug. You would have to log a support ticket and we would then have to reproduce this issue in your account. If there are sorts and filters in the Workplan, clear them and let me know if the views match.
any update on being able to drag and drop items in the work breakdown structure? How do I reorder items in v6?? If I recall, there was up and down arrows in v5.
Yes, it's due on 9th Feb.
You can cut and paste in the meantime like with Excel.
v5 had indent/outdent buttons and v6 does too, just they are buttons with words on instead of icons.
Guys, I am using Drag and Drop to reorder tasks in the workplan, but it works partialy. Sometimes I can drag a task, receive a blue undicator line and drop it the task on it.. In several cases I drag a task, but I don't get the blue indicator line and I cannot drop the task. The task simply jumps back to it's origional position. I am unable to say in what cases I can drop and when I can't. It seems random.
Hierarchical relationship in Clarizen is as follows:
- a Milestone can only be subordinate to a Project
- a task can be subordinate to a Project or a Milestone.
Regardless of which technique is used, drag and drop or copy and paste etc., the system will not allow structuring the workplan outside of these parameters.
When using drop and drop functionality, the system is confirming allowed changes by displaying a blue undicator. If it does not appear, it likely means that you are "breaking" the hierarchical relationship and in such case the action is reversed.
For further clarification, hop on our Intermediate Q&A webinars and ask for a demo, so that one of our experts can explain it in detail ( to register> http://www.clarizen.com/live-demo.html#second).
Dragging and Dropping a task across the Workplan doesn't necessarily mean that I want to create certain relationships between the dragged task and its neighboring tasks.
Often I just want to reorganize the list in a certain logical / convenient way.
When the system tries to anticipate my intentions and limit my moves it binds me. I would like to be free to drag and drop without affecting relationships automatically.
Also, If I'm trying to drag a task to an "Illegal" location it's better to give a red indicator line inastead of not giving any indication. As it currently works it seems like a bug or a response problem. I wouldn't guess that this was the intended functionality.
Not sure if this is relevant but we found Drag and Drop was disabled on IE8 and it's only as we've migrated to IE11 that we have been able to use this facility.
Actually, in IE8 you need to enable Compatibility Mode for drag and drop to work.
I too am having tremendous issues with the logic and lack of intuitiveness of using the workplan. I have used PM software since 1986 and this is the hardest to master so far. Like in MSP I need to be able to drag a task from where it has been created to maybe another level and then indent it under a different milestone as a single mouse action. I have spent hours today trying to achieve simple things - or they should be simple.
I do not believe that you can do it in only 1-click but if you are unable to move a Task up to where you want it within your Work Plan, and take a second step to indent the task so it is within the Milestone you want, there may be an issue. Those are the two steps required to move a Task where you want it...
1 - Drag a Task from the bottom of the work plan to directly under the Milestone where it will be added to.
2 - Click on the Indent button on the Toolbar Ribbon above the Work Plan so that the Task is indented and becomes a child of the Milestone.
If this cannot be done, you may have an issue your environment and a case should be opened. Provide Grant Login Access and steps to reproduce (including which Project/Task you are working with) as well as any screen captures that may help us resolve the issue for you.
