Every user can define their own display name. The display name is the name to next to picture/icon on the profile page.

Why do some users show their full name and other just the first name?
When assigning resources, or work item managers, some users appear with their full name while others show just the first name, and some others show the first name with just the initial of the surname. What controls this display format?
