Resource loading & to do items

To do items can be floating or attached to an item.  When looking at the resource loading report, it groups all to do items together (regardless of whether they are floating or attached to something).  It would be nice to move a to do item under the project it is related to to better understand workload.  In our organization, we appear to be heavily loaded with to do items even if many of those items are related to a project.

Tori,

Thank you for posting this in our Forum. This is actually possible within Clarizen currently. To Move the To Do item to a Project, simply highlight the Work Item and above the toolbar in the Work plan, select the Misc link and the Move button. This will allow you to add the To Do Item to any Project, Milestone or Task. You are even able to create a new Work Item to move the To Do Item to. See the screen capture below...

Boris, I am referring to the resource load feature found in each person's profile.  In my view, you will find three projects and then a list of to do items.  Some of my to do items are actually tied to projects but they are grouped in the to do list instead of the project itself.  This means my to do list group looks to be a large percentage of my workload even though most of the items are referring to one of the three projects listed.

In this case you will have to physically attach the todo tasks to the project (making them normal tasks instead of todo's).

Tori,

Unfortunately, this is how Clarizen structures 'To Do' items. By definition, To Do items have no parent and are standalone work items that do not necessarily relate to projects (though they can). Since they do not have a Parent Project, the structure creates a Virtual Hierachy for To Do Lists called [To Do List] and list them there.

What I need to better understand is how you would like them presented? Do you want them to show as part of the Projects they are tied to? If this is the case then you can 'move' or change them to have a parent (project or milestone), but note that they will be converted from a To Do List to a Task. You can tell by the icon.

Sincerely,

Boris Krutiy

In the resource loading app, I'd like to see an additional grouping of to do items inside of each project if they are related to that project.  Then, remove those items from the main level to do list group.

Tori,

This would mean manually moving them under the Parent Project, thus changing the work item type from Task to To Do and then Moving them out of the Parent Project when the relation is no longer required, which is not possible. I also looked into trying to Add a To Do List to a Project as a 'Shortcut' which creates a relation but this does not work, you receive a Validation Error that 'Creating of Shortcut is not available on to do list items.'

It sounds to me like this will require a Feature Request to be able to show the To Do Lists per your requirements. Let me know if you would like me to submit this for you and if so, please provide a detailed Use case of how/when you want to use this functionality and how you want it to work.
