How can I require entry of a note when task is cancelled?

I was trying to figure our if I could do this via a workflow - when a consultant marks a task as cancelled, I want Clarizen to ask them for a reason, e.g. "customer skipped since they do this another way". Is there a way to say when task marked as Cancelled ask user to enter a note?

 

i want to do something similar for a project or task marked on hold so hopefully both use cases will follow the same flow.

Hi Denise,

This is possible. You just need to create a workflow that says "if a task is cancelled, then "note" field is mandatory". I have moved this question from "How Do I" to "Customization" as our customizations experts monitor this forum and are better suited to answer your question.

I was trying to do it via workflow (more automatic).  How do I change it to "Mandatory" during the workflow - what field value needs to be modified?

Hi Denise,

 

You can do this via a validation rule. If you want to use notes object and not a field on the task level you can use # of notes > 0 in a validation rule.
