Portfolio Rollup Behavior Question

Some financial fields appear to be rolling up normally from child projects to the portfolio. Fixed price and actual revenue, however are not rolling up (expected revenue rolls up OK)

In addition, a project's actual expenses will roll up into actual cost when the project is completed, but actual cost at the portfolio level will not include actual expenses.

I've tried various ways to change this - looking at the behavior when projects and portfolios are marked complete, changing the Reportable and Billable settings, etc. Turning on the Billable setting at the portfolio level at least got the Expected Revenue to roll up but didn't affect anything else.

What am I missing to get all of our financial fields to roll up to the portfolio level? I'll create custom fields if necessary to capture this data, but I have to think I'm missing a basic adjustment somewhere. Thanks!

Matthew,

We would need to further investigate what your Portfolios look like (via ticket as we would need access) but if you are using Fixed Price within your work plan, this will overwrite and affect some of the roll up values you may be expecting. Here is a good article that talks about the different Financial fields.

I think I sorted this out. We turn on the "reportable" and "actual effort updated from timesheets" settings at the project level, and we were configuring the portfolio properties the same way. If I turn these off at the portfolio level only, I get the desired rollups.

Is the portfolio a relatively new feature? The documentation seems very sparse, and the community content is also thin. We find it very useful, but understanding how it works has involved a lot of trial and error.

Thanks for the reply, Boris.

Hi Matthew,

Portfolio feature has been around for quite some time now but I do agree that the documentation can be better. We are always updating our documentation and if you feel like a certain area needs improvement, please let us know right away!
