If the subscription option is insufficient, how about using a workflow rule instead? It should allow you to send an email to the owner of the case.

We would like to get advance notification before the due date of a Case. Is this possible in Clarizen?
At the moment it seems in Manage Subscription we can set Alter when past committed due date.Users can select when they would like to be notified through Manage subscription.
Configuration allows us to send an email to a fixed group of people.

Yes, as Guy mentioned I would use a scheduled workflow rule to send the notification X days before the Case due date.
Is it possible, in the workflow, to identify the assignee? So the notification can be sent to relevant assignees for different cases?
Definitely, you can define that in the rule.
