Conditional formatting will only highlight specific cells. If you want to count all projects, I would recommend creating a roll-up summary custom field.

Conditional Formatting for Reporting on Sub-items
I'm attempting to create a report that shows the number of sub-projects inside a parent project. I've added the "# of Direct Sub-items" column to the report, but this is counting projects, milestones, and tasks. I tried applying the filter below to only count projects, but the numbers don't change; it's still counting all item types. Where am I going wrong?
