That's odd, how are you attaching the image, copy & paste into somewhere or by using the 'add related' function to add the picture file?
Why do I get the contents of an image file rendered opposed to the image itself sometimes when attaching an image?

ctrl-v, the same way I attached the picture in this post. The image was captured using greenshot in both cases.
My experience is that you need to add the image as file using the add related option;
Then you have the option of adding the saved image and it will then display. We do this in posts fairly often.
It is not a saved image.
If it is a screen capture, you should have the option to save the capture, you can then add it as I described.
It is not efficient to save and then manually attach the image.
