Formula for Assignment date
Currently we have a workflow that runs on Active projects.
It looks at today and subtracts from the field assignment date. I want to get this written as a forumula instead

That type of formula will need to be done with a workflow rule, scheduled workflow rule, or both. Baking it into the field itself can cause performance issues in certain situations, which is why it is not allowed. As a workflow rule, in the worst case scenario the rule can shut itself off without impacting performance on the whole account.
