I agree with your suggestion, it would be a good addition.
However until this feature is added, you could use a workflow rule to uncheck this for you automatically on project creation.

Disable invite functionality when importing projects
We always uncheck the "invite multiple people" option when importing XML projects. I would like the ability to disable this functionality in the config for all.
