Ability to include fields in report grouping

IF I want to report on various records and then group them, I cannot put any fields in the grouping level itself.  For example, I want to report on users assigned to projects and show user type, name, email address.  The report will show me multiple records for each user (for each project they are assigned to) and each record will have the email address, user type, etc.  I can then group the records by user, but all the user-level detail is lost, since they are showing in the details, not the grouping.  The report in this case is reporting in Users > Assigned Work Items, so should be able to get the user information on the grouping level.
