Would this be an editable field or would it simply grab whomever the customer is at the project level? The system default is to only have customers at the project level, but there are a couple ways in which you can make a field at the task level that will grab the customer information at the project level (both will require doing some customization).
Custom Team Member View
I would like to add a field like "Customer" to be available for my team member in their task view. On can I do it on V6.

Interesting, we would like to have the same functionnality but is should also work on tasks which are on the "to do" list of a user. How can we assign a customer to that kind of tasks?
For "to-do's" you would have to create a custom field (typically a reference to object, customer field) and set this manually for those tasks. You can automate this with workflow rules to some degree, but I would work with your CSM on the specifics.

There are 2 different ways to do it.
1.) Create a custom field with a workflow rule that will grab the customer from the project, along with a scheduled workflow rule to populate the historical data.
2.) Use a Relations Summary field (this may be really tricky and require a second custom field at the project level)
In either case, I would strongly recommend hopping on an Advanced Q&A for help with this one, it is not a straightforward rule.
