I am documenting time spent on projects using the stopwatch. However, all my projects are off-track because I can't get the time spent on projects actually appear on the "actual effort" for the respective project (accept manually of course - but in that case I'd better use a regular stopwatch and an XLS sheet). In settings 10.1 - 10.10 have all been answered with "yes".

Hi Peter,
Could it be you have approvals enabled, and that your hours have been submitted but not yet approved ? In this case, the actual effort would not yet be updated at the work item level.
I would also add the 'reportable' and 'actual effort updated from timesheetst' fields to the grid to make sure.

In addition to the system setting, you may ALSO need to set "Actual Effort Updated from Timesheet" at the project level for existing projects, so adding those fields to your views per Jonathan's suggestion would be hugely beneficial. I typically create a view called "Time Tracking" setup that has these fields along with billable and allow reporting on sub items.
