You need to create a custom field for "Work Items" and select the very last checkbox when configuring the field: "This field is rolled-up into parent work items"

Rollup Custom Field
I have created a custom Financial Field that I need to rollup in a "portfolio" of projects. Right now, the field does not rollup to the master project. How would I go about changing this?
