The user name or user display name already exists

I am receiving the error "The user name or user display name already exists" after deleting a user using the same name.  How can I use the same name as the previous account?  Or can I recover the deleted account so I can use the name?

Hi Jeff,

When this happens it usually means that there is a user in another Org already using the same user name. Please open a case with us and we will take care of this for you. Please provide the login name that you're trying to re-use in the ticket.
