How to set the resources on a Task to be that of the child Action Item

I currently have a custom action that allows the user to create an Action Item. They have the ability to assign resources to this Action Item but I would like to be able to update the parent Task's resources with those that are assigned to the Action Item.

I can't quite work out how to achieve this..
