Risk Management

Hello, I am trying to figure out how Clarizen will help us with our risk management. We have around 70 generic risks that should be considered when managing a project. I have these loaded into Clarizen under the risk module. Ideally I would like these risks assigned to a project once it is created from a particular template but they don't seem to save when I save a template. Is there another way to assign/copy these risks to a project while leaving the original generic risks in tact?

I can think of two possible ways to deal with this.

1) Create the risk register in Excel and attach this to the project template, so less integrated with Clarizen.

2) From the project: Create a temp risk (otherwise case panel is not available), Import a CSV file of generic risks, manually add risks to the project (this doesn't seem to automatically happen?!)

Ideally the generic risks themselves would be maintained in Clarizen instead of an Excel or CSV file, then could be assigned to a project via a workflow or loaded with a template.

Jonathan,

I would want to know more about your requirements and how these Risks are handled but you definitely have some options...

1 - You can 'Add Related' Work Item from the Risk and select the desired Project. this also allows you to create a new Project with a Template.

2 - If you are doing this from the Project side, you can Add Related in the same manner.

3 - If you want to be able to Add Related in bulk, you can create a Custom Action at the Risk Item Type (or Cases so that it applies to Issues, Requests and Bugs as well). The Custom Action would need to Add the Related items same as #2 does, only the Custom Action would allow you to check multiple Risks and run in Bulk. this would be a good Use Case if you had 5 Risks that had to be linked to the same Project.

For further clarification, we suggest you register for one of our Office Hours - Advanced Configuration Webinars (see the link-> http://www.clarizen.com/resources/online-demo.html#second ).These are great resources for free consulting with our Customer Success Managers that can provide visual examples and answers to your questions.

Hi Boris,

1 - These are project specific generic risks I would like added to the project instead of being organisational level

2 - This works fine but the problem is there are over 70 I would like to add

3 - This would be ideal, assuming it would work for 70 risks. I have no idea on how to create this via a custom action but I guess it could identify the risks required via the type field I have created that labels them as 'generic', it would then need to loop through these, create a new risk record, copy the details and update the 'Resolved in Project' field with the project name. Do you think this is possible?

If so I think I have a hour or two consultancy left I could use or attend the Advanced Configuration webinar and ask the question.

I am tempted to just attach an Excel spreadsheet to the task but this means no collaborating on the risks and they cannot be embedding in a Clarizen project status report.

Thank-you for your help :)

Jonathan,

Yes #3 is possible, you can start by trying to do it yourself by joining one of our Office Hours - Advanced Configuration Webinars to find out how to get started on this Custom Action. Otherwise you can use your consultancy hours to have us build it for you.

is there a way to use Data loader to both create the risks as well as link to the work item?

Ariel,

If you take a look at the Risk entity fields spreadsheet, you can see that the Work Item relation is not available out of the box. You can likely create a Custom Field at the Risk item type that will be a Reference to Object (Work Item) and it will be available as a custom field on the Risk entity when using Data Loader.

Hope this helps.

not really, since that would require some jumping through hoops to actually being able to attach these easily to existing work items.  And the new import capability doesn't address this either...

Hey Ariel,

At the moment, due to the limitation of Clarizen functionality, it is not possible to create an item and then link it in one spreadsheet using Data Loader. If you want to create risks and then link it, it will definitely have to be in two separate spreadsheets/actions.
