How can I prevent work hours to be exceeded on a project by project basis

I want to set a total work hours for a project and not allow those hours to be exceeded. So that hours will need to be found from other activities within the project.

Also, how can I not allow actual effort to exceed work hours. Related to above, I want to prevent 8 hours of actual from being added to a task with 6 hours remaining. I would like to do this on a project by project basis.

Thanks

Bill,

Good news and bad news. The good news is that this can all be done within Clarizen. The bad news is that none can be done Out Of the Box. All that you are trying to do can be accomplished using Custom Actions, Workflows and Validation rules.

If you want to set total work hours for the Project, this is tricky because it is based on lower leaf work items (i.e. Tasks). Once you have your Project template/baseline, you would need to create a Validation rule that would not allow anyone to add any more Tasks or find a creative way around the hour limit. Exceeding work hours for actual effort is a simple Validation rule.

For more information on Customization and how to create some of these, I suggest going to http://www.clarizen.com/live-demo.html#second and joining one of our Advanced Q&A Webinars. These are free Webinars with our Custom Success team that will help you with your questions and get you started on the customizations.

Also, your Customer Success Manager is Edward Lau. I will reach out to him and ask him to reach out to you about your questions. regarding Customization needs. Last, you can post this in the Customization section of the forum which may provide you with further information as well.

Sincerely,
