Is there a way to default a custom field on a timesheet entry based on a work item's field when the add/edit popup is first shown?

I have a custom picklist field on my work items called Activity Class and I have a similar custom field on my timesheets. I'm able to create a Workflow Rule which runs every time a record is created or edited which sets the Timesheet's Activity Class to the Work Item's Activity class. Is there a way to make this logic run when a user first double-clicks on a timesheet cell and the Add/Edit Mode popup shows?

Do you want this done automatically or do you want the user to enter the class manually via an added field in Timesheet Pop Up?
