Are you on the property card of a Task, Milestone or Project?
Similarly, have you customized this Custom Field on the level of the Task, Milestone or Project?
I am trying to add a field in my property card for "work" (the work that is calculated in the work plan by totaling all work associated with all milestones in the project). When I go to the layout and try to pull this field in, I do not see it as an option to add to my property card. Is this correct? If so, what is the best way to have this rolled up field (automatically pulled from the work plan) into my property card?

I am on the property card of the project.
This field is not customized. It is a standard field in the work plan of the project. It is identified with the API name as "Work."

The most likely reason you can't pull the "Work" standard as an option to add is because it is already there, probably under Scheduling.
