Making fields required

Hey guys,

 

Is there any way to make fields required?  We want to make a few fields mandatory to populate before the user can move forward within Clarizen.  Specifically, we want to make the industry field required under the customer section.

Hi Virginia,

You can achieve this by making a validation rule so whenever a new customer is added, the field is required.

Hey Tom,

 

Thanks so much.  I think I am missing something.  When I try to create the validation rule, I cannot get the syntax correct.  I am trying to create a rule in which the Industry field is required when you create a new customer.  Can you please review the screenshot and let me know what I am doing wrong?

Hi Virginia,

You would want to use this syntax:

$Industry = NULL

Hey Tom,

 

Thanks so much.  That makes sense.  I think I am still missing something though.  When I look at your screenshot, you can select to run the validation rule when certain criteria are met.  I cannot that option (see my screenshot below).  What I have currently is not working, so I am wondering if that is the reason..? What am I missing?

Hey Tom,

 

Just kidding.  I got my validation rule to work.  Here is my dilemma though....

 

I made the industry field required, but I cannot access the field to input the data (see screenshot).  What is the best way to fix this?

I would like to require a customer to be assigned to all bugs.  Is that possible?

Or alternatively if it's more doable, require it before a bug can be closed.

This is totally possible. You would need a validation rule basically stating if the status of the bug (bug status = closed), then customer field is mandatory. This question would be better asked in our customization thread since our customization experts monitor that forum and would be able to provide an efficient way of creating this.
