Hello,
Do you have the setting "Actual Effort Updated from Timesheet" on?
Right now there are settings that allow users to update Actual Effort for completed tasks, but only from timesheet entries. Users should be able to update Actual Effort directly in the task - why is it only allowed through timesheets? Not all of our projects require timesheet entries, but all require us to make sure Actual Effort is updated on the task. Can we allow updating of this field by any means, no matter the status of the task?

Hello,

Hi Tom,
We do not because we don't want our new projects to default to that feature. We don't use timesheets on every project but enable it on a project by project basis.
And, to be clear, I want to be able to go back and update Actual Effort for tasks marked as Complete. I can update Actual Effort for Active tasks...
Joanna,
Currently, this cannot be done because once the work item is closed, the fields are locked (i.e. Actual Effort) and the only way to make a change is to manually reopen it. The reason this works for Timesheet entries is because a Task can be completed and time on the Task needs to be added after the Task was done. This is allowed via Timesheet method but since the other method requires manual updating of the the Actual Effort field on the work plan, you cannot do this.
If you would like, I can submit this as a Change Request.
Hi Boris,
Yes, I am aware that this cannot be done. This is why I posted this as an Idea/Suggestion - I think it should be allowed. Allowing someone to update Actual Effort directly in the task supports the business case you mentioned in your reply ("... a Task can be completed and time on the Task needs to be added after the Task was done."). I would love to see this change request submitted, thanks!
Hi Joanna,
We have opened a feature request on your behalf. Thank you for submitting this idea!
