Link between Reports/Report Folders and Sharing via API

I know that I can manually go into a View, Report or Report Folder and specify sharing permissions with an Administrator or Superuser or other specific user. What I would like to do is set these sharing permissions programmatically using the API.

Specific Use case: any new report folder created, I want the administrator, Superusers or specific users to be set up in Sharing with specific rights (i.e. Owner, Editor, Contributor or Viewer).
