It sounds like a setting to turn on dependent/conditional lists to me. I know the feature is being looked at so that would be my guess.
I'm hoping it is as I have several areas where I'm waiting for this feature so I can reduce secondary selection lists depending on choices already made.
What are dependent/conditional lists?

You have an excellent question here. This is one of those settings that is rarely used. So rare, that there is no info about it in the User Manual. I will update you when I have details from our Product team on this one.
