This can do done with a Workflow rule. Please contact your PS Consultant to help you build the rule based on your exact process.

Default in Mark As dropdown window
When an IT request changes to a new project I would like the default in the Mark As dropdown window to be "Active" rather than have to choose from the list manually.

Would need more detail, however it is very simple to create a workflow to action a status change based upon another field being changed
