Cannot update template field

Hello,

We are unable to update a template on a project using API. It says

"Invalid operation: Field 'Template' cannot be updated. The field is marked 'read-only'."

Hello Pranay,

This is by design. This field is not updatable.

Thank you for the reply.

If a project is created with a template with tasks, added a lot of data to the project fields. Later, if they want to change the template for a different set of task list, if they cannot update this field, how can a user achieve the goal to get new set of templated tasks?

Hi Pranay,

You could add a new project from a template to the existing project, then outdent the relevant tasks so that they become children of your existing project. Then delete the newly created project containing whatever is leftover.

There could be better ways to achieve this (business rules or API maybe), but it depends on the exact use case. If my suggestion does not work, I recommend working with your CSM/PS consultant and they will be able to guide in the right direction.
