I've created a Custom Field for recording who an Action has been assigned to but am struggling to find the right field type.
I need to be able to choose names of people who are already users on the system or enter a free text name if the user doesn't exist. It's not practical to add everyone as a user as there will be hundreds of them over time.
I also need to be able to have more than one person the action is assigned to.
It's the same field type as on the screen for sending Widgets and also for sending Emails from within a project but I can't work out what setting that is.

I don't think any field will allow you to do a free text option, the best case would be creating a new user on the fly. You could do a reference to object field on the users object, but it would only allow one selection. Which object are you using to track Actions? Tasks, Requests, Issues?
