Resource leveling

Is there any kind of resource leveling available? or could you please suggest any known workaround.

Leveling is a very tricky matter and from polling our most active users, past experience using resource leveling tools had resulted with more damage than benefit. This is why we provide other options to easily identify the available resource, the prioritized tasks and be able to make swift decisions on who and when to assign any given task.

I suggest you hop on one of the advanced webinars to ask our product specialist to demonstrate these best practices.

When you have a multi-project environment with shared resources, it is difficult to implement resource leveling as it can have averse effects on other projects that may belong to other PMs. As Gil mentioned this can cause a lot of damage and have a far reaching effect on many projects.

I have the same question. Is there a resource leveling available?

I understand that leveling is a tricking issue. But if you use it well it can be a powerful tool to fine tune a project to match resource/cost and time constraints.

For example in MS Project I used this for single projects using roles instead of real people (e.g. software developers). If you set task dependencies and resource usage right, you can test how your project will benefit (or not) by adding resources (1,2 or 3 developers).

Can this be done with Clarizen?

By the way, is there a resource role concept?

Resource leveling is not available in Clarizen for the reasons stated above, but we do plan to address this with some new functionality next year (although it will probably be much different then the resource leveling you would use in MS Project, which again is designed to work with a single project at a time).

There is a concept of role. We have Project Managers, Managers, Resources, Reviewers... as well as job titles (which can carry rates), and you can also create custom fields for roles.
