Is there a way to completely unlink the duration and the work effort? Sometimes, but not always, changing work effort changes duration, and vice versa. Because changing one sometimes changes the other, but this is consistent, it causes some problems. Sometimes a user wants to increase the work effort, but does not want to change the duration.
Currently our settings hold "work" constant, while duration and units are changed. Perhaps this is the problem.
Any advice, or insight on best practices for entering this information would be very helpful!

If both your work and your duration are manually set (with the triangle in the upper right corner), then neither should update automatically. Sounds like that's what you're looking for, so if one is updating on you then just manually set it.
