Work hours estimate vs. work hours actual

Can resources update % complete AND hours spent for tasks directly on the work plan so that we can compare work hours estimates vs. work hours actuals?

To clarify my question - I realize we can have resources update % complete in the work plan and there seems to be setting to enable actual effort in hours to show up as a column on the work plan that pull from the hours entered in the time sheet (although I have not been able to get that to work). Is there any way for resources to add hours for work items directly on the work plan page?

Never mind - I somehow missed the actual effort column. I can input actual effort and then over-ride the automatic % complete calculation if necessary to have both values accurate and present in the work plan.

Hi Naftali! That is correct, they can input effort by using actual effort or remaining effort. However, you really have to choose either one or the other to report by because they will start over-riding each other. Also the actual effort can be updated automatically from Time Tracking if you are using that module as well.

Hi Josh. Can you clarify what you mean by you really have to choose either one or the other to report by because they will start over-riding each other. Are you referring to how we configure related reports to run, or do you mean there is something problematic in updating % complete AND actual effort on the same current project view? If you are referring to the reports, are there global settings to define which way reports are calculated?

Thanks.

I'm referring to updating % completion AND actual effort on the same task in the current project view. You would usually want a user to either focus on filling out a % completion OR enter in actual/remaining effort... pick one and have that be the standard policy. Time tracking adds another layer of complexity, but in that case it is okay to update both the % completion and have time tracking update the effort.
