How to avoid importing duplicate issues through Excel.

using the issues loader, you can only add / insert items, so if you have already loaded some, it will duplicate them.  We have another tool, the data loader ( http://www.clarizen.com/appsmarketplace/Data-Loader.html and  http://usermanual.clarizen.com/#data-loader), that allows updating of data, so if you set it up correctly, it will not duplicate line items but rather update them.  The Data Loader app needs to be installed from the App Marketplace and needs to be run as an admin.

Hello, I installed and enabled Data loader, however not getting any option how to find where it is installed or where to click to get Upload data screen.

You may need to refresh the screen.  You would then find the data loader in Start > Custom Actions > Data Loader.

Thanks that worked. I am able to upload data. However, now I am back to the same problem. Now, if I use the same excel sheet to be imported, now I have 24 defects again. Where as it should avoid the duplicate.

please look at the help file I linked above, in the section Updating Data.  You would need to link the items on your spreadsheet (using a PK field) to ones already in Clarizen.  Note this is work of a workaround to ignore items already in Clarizen than ignoring them on the import file.  Whatever is on the spreadsheet will either get uploaded or updated.  But no way to ignore.  Clarizen doesn't know that an item has already been imported, even if all the fields are the same.
