I would like to add projects categories and have the possibility to sort my project by category

Hi there,

I would like to add projects categories and have the possibility to sort my project by category.

Exemple: Category : PPC, Social Medias, Web site Dev, Mobile app, etc...

And On the project main page I would like to have the option to see both project and sub project  when they are sort by catégory. Is there a possibility to personalize my account that way?

thank you very mush

Hi Pascal.  Are you using the V5.4 or V6 release?  You can define categories for projects in either version, and sort/filter by this information in the Project view (V6 has far nicer filters that you can apply).  However, you cannot have project hierarchy on the Projects page.  In v6 what you can do is create one large project that contains your other projects and then apply sorts and filters from the object drill-down page for the parent project (as opposed to the project "main page").

I'm using V6.

Can I just create new project type and sort my project with this field?

Indeed you can. You can either use the existing project type field or create a brand new picklist field that you can name yourself.

But there is no way to see all project and sub-project in the same page and after maybe apply a filter to only see a type of project and sub project?

The projects page does show all projects and sub-projects, but not in a hierarchical way. Here you can definitely apply a filter to only see a certain type of project/subproject.  Option #2 is doing what I suggested above to create a project as a container for all the other projects.  When you go into that project you can apply sorts and filters to the hierarchy.  The downside to this is if you have a ton of projects it may impact performance.

Option #2 is for sure not for us. I'll play a little bit with the filter and see if it works how we want here.

Thank you again

Hi Tmacdonald,

You may go to the customization panel in settings (as an admin), and select the entity for which you would like to create a field (for example, work item - project) Then, select create new - custom field.

There you may select its type to be a picklist, and then set all the values yourself.

You can even add icons to each option !
