V6 Gantt view organisation.

I have set up a template for a common set of resources. When I begin a new project using the template, and then adjust start and due dates, the basic view works well, however, when viewing the Gantt chart of the timeline, the order of the resources (names) changes and they are ordered in what I assume is the chronological sequence they were created (ID).

I would like to have the tasks ordered according to start date in the Gantt view.

I would also like to customize the columns and appearance of the Gantt view for printing.

Is there a way to achieve this?

You can customize the columns that appear in the Gantt by going to Settings >> Layout >> Work Items. As for the other requests, they will be available when we release the next iteration of the Gantt chart, which will be fully interactive and embedded into the main view as opposed to being a popup.

Settings is available either by clicking your name in the upper right or by using the navigation on the left.  Then you click the Layout tab, then work items on the left, then "Gantt"

Ah, unfortunately it does not look like you have Admin permissions.  You need to be an admin in order to change the Gantt columns (for now, this will change in the future).  Can you work with one of the admins in your organization to set the columns?

Ahh, that did the trick, thanks a lot.

Is there a way that I can change the output of the PDF to Landscape view? it always looks a little jammed up in portrait.

I believe that is something you can set in print properties.

Wow, you're fast on the response Josh, nice.

We have tried printing as landscape but it does not work. In the printer properties landscape can be selected but nothing changes visually and the Gantt prints out in portrait. Any other possible options to change this elsewhere?

No hidden options unfortunately, what you see is what you get when it comes to Gantt printing.  I do know that other customers have printed out huge Gantts on plotters, but that was all done via printer properties.

Josh,

We found how to print the chart in landscape. In the Gantt view it is dependent on where I right click, whether or not I can access the advanced printing options. Excellent.

However, I am unable to print the entire chart in a set of side by side landscape pages. We do not have a plotter just an A4/A3 printer.

We have projects which run for 3-4 months and trying to examine the Gantt for a project of that length and complexity, which is jammed onto 1 A3 is not easy.

Is there a forum where I could talk to other V6 users about this? I have tried to find one but information on V6 seems limited at this stage.

Hi Josh, I'm looking to customize my gantt columns and I don't see gantt in the layout /work items list.

Am I missing something?  Image attached of my view.

Thanks,

You are almost there Janet. Just click on "Work Item" on the left and then click "Gantt Columns." You will be able to edit the columns from there.
