Changing user name

Hello,

 

Right now, our user names are the same as their email addresses. We would like to change the user name to be first initial last name ( ex. bjohnson for bjohnson@yahoo.com).  I went into People and clicked on the user's name, but when I change the user name, I receive a  validtaion error "user name or user display name already exists".  I checked for deleted, suspended, pending users with the same user name but none exist.  Any ideas?

The username is a field that needs to be unique among all Clarizen users.  I'm sure there is already a bjohnson in one of our customer accounts.  For username, I always recommend email addresses.  As for display name, this only needs to be unique to your organization.
