How to link tasks during a data upload

In a recent Q&A session I was told that in the new version of the Data Loader, it was possible to link tasks by defining predesessors. The What's New page also confirms this 'Supports Predecessors dependencies column in Workplan load'

However, I can't find out how to do this. What is the name of the column I need to add to the Excel file. I tried Link:Predecessors, but that isn't recognised.

Hi Andrew,

Regarding predecessors, you would need to use "Dependency Link" under links. You can download the column headers when you navigate to that. Let me know if this helps. I have also attached a template.

Do I have to do this after I have loaded the tasks, or can I do it at the same time? I was told that you could do it at the same time just by adding a new column.

If I have to do it separately, how do I identify the tasks?

Hi Andrew,

I believe that you would need to do it separately if you want to create new tasks. If the tasks are already in the system, you only need to do one time but with new creation of tasks, you will need to do another run via data loader before you can link tasks.

Hi Andrew,

From the template I attached, the column "WorkItem" is where you should put the task name or if you have duplicate task names, you would use the ID (T-XXXXX).

I tried this and I got this error

Can't add/update object 'Task' (e22b88f5-a7ff-44f2-9fa9-73c695f0eeff) in Clarizen: Entity 'Task' does not contain the field 'DependencyType' (Error ref: 2i1nZk7zjyf2EEbZdFbeTR)

I removed the DependencyType column and got this error

Can't add/update object 'Task' (74abc408-620b-4e83-9094-b63f65f7caca) in Clarizen: Entity 'Task' does not contain the field 'WorkItem' (Error ref: 3QPGblzndhccD2QI0jgyMw)

I'm going around it circles here - I'm not impressed

Andrew,

Please attach the template you are using so I can take a look at your column headers.

Just in case anyone else is struggling with this, you can add dependencies when you create tasks using a Predecessor: column as shown in the attached screenshot. Thanks to Raphael for helping me with this
