Relate a Task to a Customer?

I see that it is not possible to use the Add Related function to relate a Task to a Customer.  Is there any way to change or customize Clarizen to do so?

I know that Projects and Cases can be related to Customers, but also want to be able to relate Tasks to Customers.

Thank You

Hello,

Currently, this is not possible OOTB, however, we have a feature request for this functionality *CR-241266 *. Could you please elaborate on your specific business use case for this capability, so that I can push your feedback to our Product Team?

In the interim, you could create a custom field as reference to object on a work item entity. That way you will be able to reference customers to tasks. See link for example:  http://screencast.com/t/T2b13SGh

For further clarification, we suggest you register for one of our Office Hours Webinars (see the link-> http://www.clarizen.com/resources/online-demo.html#second ).These are great resources for free consulting with our Customer Success Managers that can provide visual examples and answers to your questions.

All the best,

Diana

Hi,

My company would also like to see this implemented. Our use case is that we have some umbrella projects that we raise to hold taks for suppoort so a project called "Customer Support 2015" with tasks "billable support customer #1", "billable support customer #2" etc. This works great as a way for staff to record the small amounts of ad hoc time that don't have a project of their own.

But when it comes to reporting none of that time appears on reports for that customer because customers can only be related at project level. If the tasks could all have different customers then the "Detailed Report by Customer for a selected Timeframe" would work great.

So another vote for that feature request from me.

Thanks

Thanks for asking Diana!

Similar to what James Marston.  We are a small project based company and since we are using Clarizen we want to use it to manage all our work, not just projects.  So we created ongoing projects for various operations/functions such as accounting and so on, as a placeholder for tasks related to those functions.  But the tasks entered under accounting relate to many difference customers.

Sure, we could use issues instead, but then we can't create a task with sub-tasks, and we can't have placeholders for each operation/function.  I spent a lot of time deciding how we wanted to structure non-project work, and the method I detail above works perfect - except for this.

Diana, also thank you for the screenshot example showing the custom field referencing an object, I am going to give that a try.

OK, I implemented that suggestion.  But I assume it's not possible to make that link bidirectional?  In other words, the Task is linked to the Customer, but the Customer is not linked to the task?  No way to go to the Customer record and have any clue it is related to the task, correct?

Hello,

You can create a Reverse Reference field on a customer entity. See attachment for example. That way, you will be able to see bidirectional relation between tasks and customers. For further clarification, hop on our Advanced Office Hours Webinars (see the link-> http://www.clarizen.com/resources/online-demo.html#second ) and we will be happy to walk you through this.

Thank you both for your feedback. I have pushed your input to our Product Team.

All the best,

Diana
