How to run a report on a Portfolio Project to capture information on all sub-items under the Child Projects (multiple layers)?

Hi,

I am looking to develop a Report for eventual use in a Dashboard that will query all sub-tems under a Portfolio project with several layers of Sub-Projects, Milestones, Tasks and Sub-Tasks.  The Report I currently have set up that pulls information based on the <Parent Project> field but does not seem to be capturing all the Work Items in this tiered project structure.  Any suggestions on how to ensure all information is being pulled into this report and not just the top tiers?  Thanks.

Bob,

It looks like you opened a ticket on this one which I have grabbed. I will work on it via the ticket.

I am interested in the answer to this question. Please share the details so I don't have to ask the same question and tie someone else up answering something that has already been answered. The documentation on portfolios is extremely lacking and terrible! I'd love to see something that explains the pros and cons of using portfolios vs. parent/child projects. And, while I am at it, I would think they should be called programs instead of portfolios to better align with PMP definitions.
