Hi Ryan,
Thank you for your input! I have submitted a feature request to our R&D team regarding this. I will update you if there are any news. Thanks!
When working with fixed-work task reporting policy, the estimated effort (Work) for a given task drives not only the given task's completion date, but the schedule of the any subsequent tasks as well. As progress is logged against a task, remaining effort is decreased by the logged time, but often a resource has a better idea as they log progress of how much effort remains before a task will be completed.
In order to encourage users to consistently update their best estimate of remaining effort on a given task, it would be very helpful to add a remaining effort field to the timesheet entry pop-up window. This way, when a user updates time logged to a given task, a reminder is in place to update remaining effort to keep the schedule in sync with reality.
If enforcing a review/update of remaining effort is already possible via workflow rules, please advise.

Hi Ryan,
Also, I just want to say that you can create a custom field for remaining effort and add it to the timesheet via layout. However, as mentioned, I have created a feature request for this to be out of the box.
I realise this topic is a bit old now. Has there been any update on whether this feature is coming? It is best practice in our organisation to have our consultants update their remaining effort when logging time against a task.
Creating a custom field for remaining effort and adding that to the timesheet entry is not a viable solution, as this does not work with the in-built Clarizen functionality that automatically updates %complete, actual effort versus remaining effort etc. Creating a workflow rule that copies the custom remaining effort from the timesheet entry to the standard remaining effort field also causes problems as this prevents Actual Effort from updating for some reason.
This would still have to be done with configuration.
