Notify Resource that they've been assigned to a task

I can't find a function that notifies a resource that they've been assigned to a task, so I'm assuming I should set this up as a workflow rule, but I can't figure out the best way to do this that won't involve emailing all resources assigned to a task if I only change one person's assignment. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

Indeed, the way to do this is a workflow rule. The good news it that we already have an app in the apps marketplace for it: http://www.clarizen.com/appsmarketplace/item/Resource-Notifications.html
