Managing Dependencies

Managing Dependencies

Dependencies enables you to create links between work items. Clarizen operates with two types of dependencies:

  • Schedule Dependencies
  • Progress Impact Dependencies

To see dependencies of the selected work item click the Link symbol (Dependencies and Progress Impacts) of the Info Card panel.  The Dependencies and Progress Impacts tab will be opened. Choose Dependency or Progress Impact radio button to view a list of work item dependencies and progress impacts correspondingly.

In addition, you can also add and delete dependencies and progress impacts.

Creating Dependencies

There are several ways to create dependency between work items directly in the work plan grid:

  • You can create links between work items in the corresponding tab of the Dependency and Progress Impact tab of the right panel Info card.
  • Select two or more work items and press Ctrl-F2 on the keyboard. Dependency of the type FTS and the Lag = 0 will be automatically created between the work items.
  • Select a work item and click Link (Add Dependency) button in the grid toolbar. In the opened dialog choose a work item that will be predecessor of the selected work item, define Dependency Type and Lag
  • Select two work items and click Link (Add Dependency) button in the grid toolbar. In the opened dialog select which of two selected work items will be predecessor, define Dependency Type and Lag
  • Select two or more work items and click Link (Add Dependency) button in the grid toolbar. In the opened dialog define Dependency Type and Lag

It looks like the February release has the ability to now do this via drag-and-drop but I haven't been able to get it to work. Can you add instructions on that, please?

How can I edit the lag in an existing dependency? I can't seem to find an editor interface. Perhaps I'm not looking in the right place.

Hi Chloe,

Yes, select the task and click "Add Related" above the project plan view pane. Click Predecessors or Successors (whichever is applicable) and this will bring up a list of the selected tasks current dependencies. There is an interface there to add or edit the lag for each dependency.

I hope this helps.

Stephen
