Customers & Programs

We would like to see the ability to add Customers to Programs.

Hi Becca - do you have a single customer which you need to map to a Program? Or link multiple customers to multiple Programs?

If it's just 1 customer per program, you can easily just add a custom "reference to object" field.

It would be a single customer to multiple programs.  I just questioned the ability to do this and this was the response I received from Clarizen Support:

Question: "Is there not a way to add a customer to a program? I can add the customer at the project level like normal but is there a way to know which customer a program is for?"

Response: "I've confirmed with our product team that currently you cannot add Customers in Programs."

Which response is correct?

Thanks!

Is there any update on which response is correct regarding if this is possible or not?

Hi Becca - I'm the Product Manager for Program Management.

It can indeed be easily done by adding a custom field that references a customer.

What Support was describing was our decision not to include (as standard) the linkage of Customers to Programs like we have for Projects because we see that the most common scenario is for a single customer per project, and allowing multiple customers can make reporting more complex.

Once you add your field, you'll get a lookup to Customers, much like you'll get when choosing a Project Manager (i.e. a single user), you won't add via "Add Related".

You can also use Reverse Reference option (see in the example below), which will let you show a list of all referencing Programs on Customers details page. If it's only going to be 1 Program per Customer, you might decide this is not  option.

If you have Admin permissions, go to the Configure screen, add a new Custom Field like so:

Hop on a Config Q&A webinar if you need help with this.
