Timesheet Report on Work Items as opposed to projects

I am trying to create a report that gives me the Total reported hours by users per work item (as opposed to per Project). I have a report that gives me this information at the project level, but not at the milestone or task level. Is this doable? The project level report is set up as follows:

Report on Timesheet. Include related data Work Item and Resources

Filters:

  1. <Timesheet>.Project Equals x
  2. <Timesheet>.Reported Date Between x and y

I want to do the exact same thing as above but at more granular level (tasks as opposed to projects)

Have you tried some of the default Time Tracking reports such as the "Resource Hourly Report" or "Resource Summary"?

The Resource Hourly Report is close, but not quite what the organization is looking for. What is needed is basically the Resource Hourly Report but instead of searching by individual employees, you can search by the Work Item and then see all of the resources' hourly reports underneath that.

We have nested tasks which necessitates a report like this. For example, say we have non-reportable task A. Indented underneath Task A are Tasks B, C, and D all of which have different resources assigned to them. We want to be able to search for Task A and then see the hourly report for all resources underneath it (Tasks B, C, and D).

You could run the "All Customer Summary" which grabs everything and then filter in Excel after running the report (can use a Macro if this is a repetitive report).
