Project Calendar Exception

Hi,

I have marked Christmas holidays in 2018 in System's Calendar. One of the project wants to work during Christmas holidays. In project calendar, christmas holidays dates are greyed out, which is correct as its taken from System's Calendar.

To add a working day exception, when I click on "Add Exception" and select "Working" radio button, the exception types listed are all Non-Working (like PTO, Education plan, Furlough, Holiday, Sick leave, vacation etc). Since I'm adding a working day exception, shouldn't these be working day entries, or at best be free text ?

Let's say, if I ignore the types and proceed with adding a working day exception on 24th Dec 2018. The 24th Dec date on calendar shows a strip with the exception name, but the dates does not gets recalculated in work plan. Usually, when a date is changed in work plan, the related dates gets recalculated automatically, but i this case of adding working exception, the task dates are not being calculated automatically. How do force a date update to account for working exception ?

Thanks,

I've just gone through the same actions you described and found that my timing plan did not automatically update, but by simply maximising the work plan to full screen (Reloading) the plan it picked up the change.

It will take some time to recalculate all your projects, usually it will process within 15 minutes or so.

Hi Phil, I tried the reloading trick, but it did not work for me.

Hi Josh, It does not shows the exclamation mark on the suitcase icon, so I believe it's not recalculating.

Moreover, in the project calendar, while adding exception, when "working" is selected, the Exception Type still shows non-working types, like PTO, holiday, sick leave etc. This makes me think whether the system is actually taking in the working exceptions created here.

Any insights on how can I "force" the work plan dates to take the working exceptions please ?

The exclamation mark is not necessarily required for recalculation. You can usually force a faster recalc on a project by editing a roll-up field, but that depends on the size of the project or project hierarchy. I would recommend checking the Project calendar, which can be different from the Organizational calendar. For example, if you have a non-working day at the org level and a user tries to manually set that date in a project, they will get a popup asking if they want to convert that to a working day. If they select yes, then the Project will no longer list that day as nonworking while it still shows up in the Org.
